The re-vote for the TriMet transportation group will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM at these locations: Ruby Junction Yard, Powell Garage, Center Garage, Portland Street Car, and Merlo Garage (serving both Merlo & Elmonica operators). The TriMet tentative agreement did not receive ratification from the entire membership on August 3rd. While the salaried and maintenance groups approved and voted in favor of the contract, the transportation group narrowly voted against it. The ATU Local bylaws require approval from each represented group for contract ratification. Given that two out of three groups voted 'yes', the wage committee has decided to conduct a second vote exclusively for the transportation group after providing more detailed information and clarifications. Throughout this week, senior leadership and union representatives will visit the transportation garages and yards to respond to questions and address the concerns of the members.
It is crucial that we come together to support this agreement and lock in our economic security, increase in longevity pay, more vacation, childcare stipend, education opportunities, no change in healthcare coverage, and much more. When voting on a contract, we vote on the total package. The leadership of ATU Local strongly encourages all transportation members in good standing to take part in the re-vote scheduled for Wednesday, August 14th. We advise you to vote 'YES' in favor of the proposed beneficial changes, following both our recommendation and the recommendation of your wage committee.
