TriMet Members

Dear members;

You may have seen news reports in the last day or two that Kronos, the company that runs timesheet and payroll systems for many large organizations around the world—including TriMet—experienced a ransomware attack and a widespread service outage.

Kronos is working on restoring its service, but because we don’t know how soon it will be up and running again, our Finance and IT departments are working on an alternative method to process payroll.  Employees will continue to be paid by TriMet on payday.

Here are the important points to know right now:

What happened? Kronos is having a service outage due to a ransomware attack against their systems.

Who at TriMet is affected? Approximately 800 union maintenance employees who use Kronos for timekeeping.

Will employees still be paid on time? Yes.

Will employees still receive the $1,000 appreciation bonus?  Yes.
Were TriMet systems compromised? No. The systems that were compromised belong to our service provider, Kronos.

What service is affected? The Kronos timekeeping system was affected. It is unavailable.
When will service be restored? We don’t know yet. Kronos is still recovering from the attack and has said that it may take weeks.
How is TriMet tracking time in the meantime? We are working on a solution and will have more information soon.

Affected employees and their supervisors will receive additional information on how to track time during this outage. If you have questions, please contact your supervisor.
