What’s New at ATU?

 October 2018 edition

Welcome to the latest edition of ATU 757’s e-newsletter for members, with updates about what’s happening inside your union, in the world of organized labor, and around our region. If you have a feature you’d like to see in a future edition, please contact ATU 757 staff!

In Case You Missed It…
• Earlier this month, ATU members at TriMet LIFT / First Transit Regions 1 and 2 voted to ratify new contracts with their employer! We are still hard at work negotiating a new contract for Region 3 members, so please stay tuned for updates.
• If you’re a retired TriMet worker and you still need to get your HOP ID Badge (to allow you to ride the system for free), then please schedule an appointment with TriMet Transit Security as soon as possible.
• Ballots are being sent out in Oregon and Washington, and they should be hitting your mailboxes in the next couple of days. ATU 757 has endorsed candidates in races across the communities we serve, and we’ve also taken a position on several statewide and local ballot measures in Oregon. Check out our website for more information about our endorsement process and our current list of endorsements!

Important Update on TriMet’s Mercer Mess
Our TriMet members are all too familiar with the recent “Dependent Eligibility Verification” process, which required employees and retirees to submit documentation proving that your dependents are still eligible to remain on your insurance plan. Dozens of ATU members had their dependents’ health coverage terminated because they couldn’t meet the company’s arbitrary deadline to send in paperwork.

TriMet’s new Executive Director of Labor Relations, Kimberly Sewell, has notified ATU that there will be a special “Early Enrollment” period for eligible dependents who lost coverage due to the Mercer verification process.

If a member of your family was removed from your health insurance plan as a result of the Mercer dependent eligibility verification process, and they are eligible for that insurance coverage, you must submit a special Open Enrollment form AND the required documents to prove dependents’ eligibility for coverage. If you have already appealed the termination of coverage and submitted required documentation to TriMet, then you will still need to submit an Open Enrollment form.

Please see our website to download the required forms, and if you need any assistance at all, please call the Union Hall at (503) 232-9144.

In Memoriam: Carl Faddis, 1953-2018

We are profoundly sad to announce the passing of brother Carl “Bus Man” Faddis, a bus operator at Lane Transit District and longtime officer of our Local, who departed this earth on Monday, September 17th. Brother Faddis was a dedicated unionist. He served as Recording Secretary for Lane Transit District members from 2003 to 2006, as the Extra Board Liaison Officer from 2009 to 2011, and finally as Executive Board Officer from 2011 until his retirement earlier this year.

Please take a moment to read our full obituary for Carl on atu757.org.

Our Union Is Growing

We’re proud to announce that workers at CC Rider in Columbia County voted on Thursday, September 27th to join ATU Local 757! Your 22 new sisters & brothers are dispatchers, bus operators, a bus washer, and a mechanic who serve Columbia County, with routes to and from St. Helens, Scappoose, Vernonia, Clatskanie, Longview, Kelso, Portland, and Hillsboro.

Our newest members are part of a growing family. In the last year, workers at the Sunset Empire Transportation District in Astoria and Warrenton elected to join ATU Local 757, as did workers at Hood River County Transportation District, joining over 5,000 active and retired members of our union across Oregon and southern Washington.

Welcome to the union, CC Rider sisters & brothers! We are Union Strong!
