Four Kelowna bus drivers assaulted in a day, Local calls for action

In an unprecedented day of violence on Kelowna’s bus system, four drivers were attacked in separate incidents last Friday, May 20. Local *1722* has demanded immediate action from the police and transit system to address this disturbing and growing problem. “While one assault is too much, four is inconceivable and of epidemic proportions,” said Local President Scott Lovell. The Local says bus shields could be one way to protect the drivers from these heinous attacks. They also pointed out that while ATU successfully lobbied Parliament to pass legislation that imposes harsher punishments to those who attack transit workers, the laws are not enforced well enough on buses.
