Last week, we announced a brand-new partnership with our long-time friends with OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon and Bus Riders Unite to bring back the Rider Advocate Program. Between 1994 and 2009, Rider Advocates served as a highly-recognizable presence on key bus and MAX lines, and were trained in conflict-resolution practices & techniques to de-escalate tough situations. Bringing back Rider Advocates is one piece of a broader strategy to improve safety and security on transit.
Next Wednesday, March 28th, we’ll demand that TriMet’s Board of Directors support a new Rider Advocate Program, and we need your help. Let’s pack the room and show the Board that WE DEMAND SAFETY AND SECURITY ON TRANSIT!
The Board meets on Wednesday the 28th at 9am, at the World Trade Center in downtown Portland (25 SW Salmon St, Plaza Conference Room). For more information, or if you’re interested in attending the meeting or testifying in front of the Board, please call Jared or Andrew (ATU 757 organizing staff) at 503-232-9144.
