Stand Up for Transit Operators—Support Senate Bill 1124 Today!
ATU 757 is championing Senate Bill 1124, a vital piece of legislation that will protect transit operators on the job by closing a dangerous gap in current law. Right now, assaults on transit operators are only considered a Class C Felony if the vehicle is in motion—meaning operators must be “in control of the vehicle” at the very moment of the attack. This leaves our colleagues vulnerable if they’re assaulted while simply performing other crucial duties.
Senate Bill 1124 fixes this by ensuring that any assault on an operator while “performing official duties” is treated as a Felony, delivering real accountability for these crimes. It also clearly defines spitting or throwing bodily fluids at an operator as Aggravated Harassment—because no one should face that level of disrespect while serving our community.
Our work as transit professionals is critical to the public. We keep communities connected, and we deserve the right to feel safe and respected at all times. Your voice matters! We need every ATU member’s support to make Senate Bill 1124 a reality and ensure that all transit operators have the protection they deserve.
