New camera on TriMet bus 2902

We’ve heard reports this morning about a new surveillance camera seen on TriMet bus 2902, mounted above the front door and seemingly pointed at the driver’s seat. Thanks to e-board member Geff Worland, who looked into this issue for the union, we know that although the camera is wired it is NOT operable and is not recording the driver on 2902 according to the data packs we’ve checked.

Although this camera isn’t currently recording drivers, please be vigilant about this kind of thing in the future. In 2014, our union won an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) case against TriMet concerning this exact issue. The state ruled that TriMet violated the law by recording bus drivers without negotiating with the union. For more information about that case, check out the Oregonian’s coverage here, or read the ruling in UP-009-13 directly here.

If you have any questions or comments, or to report similar issues in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact the union hall or reach out to your local officers.
